The Girls SPEAK! campaign connected menstrual-health management with the wider SPEAK! initiative led by CIVICUS World Alliance, which brought people and communities together across lines of division.
For Give Hope Uganda, the campaign created a practical opportunity to challenge menstrual stigma and strengthen communication around a subject that is often kept silent.
Stigma and discrimination around menstruation can isolate girls and make it difficult to talk openly with parents, teachers and peers about menstrual-health needs.
As one of the organising partners for the 2018 SPEAK! Campaign, Give Hope Uganda convened girls in community primary schools to discuss stigma, discrimination and menstrual-health management while encouraging stronger communication with parents.
